Announced alongside news of a financial investment from the club's Malaysian investors, the club statement confirmed that a rebranding will take place that will see the Welsh side take the pitch wearing red next season.

The Bluebird, the iconic image of the club's badge will remain, but only as a minor component of a new Red Dragon badge - designed to emphasise the Wels h identity of the football club. However, the moves have not proved popular.

When first announced in May, the move met significant opposition among the club's fanbase - with the proposals said to have been scrapped. However, just a month later, the club's owners have said they will press on with the plans.

The club statement read: "Following a comprehensive review of wider supporter feedback via email, letters, media coverage and polls run via the official Supporters Club and Media Wales and as a consequence of the above commitment, Cardiff City Football Club will also reactivate rebranding proposals with a view to exploiting and maximising its brand and commercial revenues in international markets, which it is hoped in turn will bring success to the club locally, whilst also attracting new partners and investors."
