Botafogo coach Oswaldo de Oliveira has confirmed that the club are trying to sign AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf again, having failed to lure him to Brazil last year.

Seedorf, 36, is out of contract with Milan this summer and after struggling to hold down a regular place this season - he has started just 14 Serie A games - the Dutchman could be set to bring his decade-long stay at the San Siro to an end.

Botafogo initially approached the former Real Madrid and Ajax star in May 2011 about a possible move but he ended up penning a new one-year deal with the Rossoneri.

However, the Brazilian club's interest is Seedorf has not diminished and they are still keen to bring him to Rio de Janeiro.

"We have been talking about that for a while and now it has fallen into public domain," Oliveira said. "There is nothing settled or close to being settled. We will see.

"It is too soon to talk about that, because it may not happen. The issue about Seedorf is still at an early stage, so much so to comment on it when we have a game on Sunday.

"It is clear that this is a marketing move and that the club need to take this step."

Seedorf is one of Europe's most decorated players having won 20 trophies, including four Champions League titles, across spells with Ajax, Sampdoria, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan over the past 20 years.
