The military is still attacking Deir al-Zour

World News - Government's intention to silence the opposition continues. At least, on Monday (08/08/2011), the Syrian military was still pounding the town of Deir al-Zour in eastern country. This attack, as the AP and AFP enters second day since yesterday.

Until this news was aired, the government forces supported by tanks is infiltrating into the city. while, at least 50 people were killed on Sunday when the military carried out the attack before dawn.

Meanwhile Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah said the violence against protesters Syrian civilians is unacceptable. He said the Assad government should implement real reforms and stop the killing machine.

Today, the Local Coordination, activist groups that collect and organize the protests said the machine gun and artillery fire came again in Deir al-Zour. Mohammed, one resident said the armored vehicle fired on the al-Hawiqa with 76 mm guns.

Neighborhood of al-Joura at the river Euphrates was attacked so that thousands of residents in both places to escape, he said. "Private hospital was closed and residents are afraid to send the injured to the facility because of the secret police government in place," he added.

The attack on Deir al-Zour, about 450 km east of Damascus, began at dawn on Sunday. A number of tanks and armored vehicles entered some parts of the city.

Residents of al-Joura said the sniper on the roof of a building. They also reported the soldiers defected rather than shooting civilians.
