World News - Large explosion rocked the main government building in the capital city of Norway, Oslo.

The explosion was believed to damage the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and several other government buildings.

Initial reports indicate Stoltenberg was not injured. But at least eight people were wounded in the blast in the city center, local media said.

So far no party has claimed the attack.

Television pictures from the scene showed debris and broken glass scattered on the streets and smoke out of several buildings. There are also ruins of a car on the road.

All roads lead to downtown is closed, the newspaper NRK.

Communications Director Oistein Mjarum Norwegian Red Cross said his office was closed due to the explosion.

"There was an explosion that could be heard throughout the capital city of Oslo," he said.

"I saw some of the windows in the building VG (Norway's popular tabloid) and in government offices were destroyed," Inggun Andersen, witnesses said.

Ingunn Andersen said, the headquarters of tabloid VG is also damaged. "I saw some of the windows of government buildings and headquarters VG damaged. Some people covered in blood lying in the street," he said.

"I saw three or four people who were injured were taken out of the building a few minutes later," added Tommy Pedersen, other citizens.

Mjarum said the flames visible on the prime minister-story building 17.

Ole Tommy Pedersen, an eyewitness, said he was standing at a bus stop about 100 yards from the scene of the explosion.

"I saw three or four people injured were taken out of the building a few minutes later," said Pedersen.

Powerful bomb blast destroyed the main office of the Norwegian government in Oslo on Friday (22 / 7), killing two people, police said as quoted by news agency NTB.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for those bombings, but as a NATO member Norway has been the target of previous threats, especially because of his involvement in the conflict in Afghanistan and Libya.

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg survived the blast, said NTB.
