6.4 Richter scale earthquake occurred in northern Japan

World News - An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale (SR) rocked northern Japan on Saturday (23 / 7). No reports of damage to property or danger of tsunami, say the geologists.

The quake occurred at 13:34 local time (11:34 GMT) off the Pacific coast of Miyagi prefecture, about the same area when a powerful earthquake and tsunami on 11 March, said the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has estimated the quake was magnitude 6.5 SR. The epicenter was 125 kilometers (km) northeast of the City Senda, the capital of Miyagi, the USGS said that the depth 35.7 km.

The quake will not cause new damage to the center of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, said operator Tokyo Electric Power. No reports of damage or injuries, while the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there is no threat
extensive and devastating tsunami in spite of local tsunamis can be caused by an earthquake of such magnitude.
