A-League leaders Brisbane Roar set a new Australian record as a 4-0 victory over Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium extended their unbeaten run to 36 games.
Besart Berisha and Issey Nakajima-Farran each struck twice in the first half as Brisbane surpassed rugby league side Eastern Suburbs' 74-year-old mark. Berisha opened the scoring after 23 minutes when he converted Thomas Broich's
low cross at the back post.
Nakajima-Farran doubled the advantage 10 minutes later when he latched onto
Broich's ball over the top and fired home before adding the third four minutes
before the break when Ivan Franjic's pass took a fortunate deflection and he
finished at the near post.
Berisha then grabbed his second of the game when, following good work from
Henrique and Broich, the Albanian lashed the ball into the roof of the net from
inside the box.
It is now 440 days since Brisbane Roar last lost a match.
Central Coast Mariners remain second, six points behind Brisbane, after two
late goals sealed a 3-1 victory over Melbourne Heart at Bluetongue Stadium.
Matt Simon gave Central Coast the lead in first-half injury time following a
corner but substitute Eli Babalj equalised with a free-kick in the 78th minute.
However, Daniel McBreen restored the hosts' lead three minutes later from the
spot following a handball and Patrick Zwaanswijk headed home a corner in the
87th minute to seal the points.
