Dancing With the Stars got personal in its third week of the new season.

The 10 remaining contestants were asked to pick a dance that best characterized the most memorable year in their lives.

"You might want to have a box of tissues ready," co-host Brooke Burke Charvet told viewers at the beginning of the show.

Ricki Lake, who came in at No. 1 based on the judges' scores Monday night, chose 2010, the year her house burned down and she met now-fiance Christian Evans. She chose the rumba in the hopes that it would "inspire others to find true love" -- and the judges loved it, giving her a total score of 27 points out of 30.

Tying for second were J.R. Martinez and Chynna Phillips, both of whom also chose the rumba.

Martinez picked the year 2003, when he was injured while serving in Iraq, with his rumba serving as "a tribute to the men and women who didn't make it home." After a lengthy standing ovation, the judges gave him a 26.

Phillips also earned a 26 for her dance, representing the year 1990, when she wrote the hit Wilson Phillips song "Hold On," inspired by her feelings of abandonment by her father, John Phillips.

Rob Kardashian selected the year 2003, when his father, famed attorney Rob Kardashian Sr., died. His foxtrot earned him 24 points.

Also coming in with 24 points were Kristin Cavallari, Hope Solo and David Arquette.

Cavallari picked 2005, the year she graduated from high school and took center stage in MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, the reality show that launched her entertainment career.

Arquette and soccer player Solo chose the current year -- the former because his marriage to Courteney Cox fell apart and the latter because the USA soccer team made it to the World Cup finals.

Like Cavallari, Carson Kressley chose a year that launched his showbiz career: 2003, the year Queer Eye for the Straight Guy premiered.

Nancy Grace, who last week suffered a wardrobe malfunction that she later denied, picked 2007, the year her twins were born prematurely.

And, coming in last place with 18 points, Chaz Bono chose the current year because "I'm happier than I've ever been."

Here are the standings after Monday night:
