Cheryl Burke could have been forgiven for having serious misgivings about being paired with the least-known of the Kardashian clan this season on 'Dancing With the Stars.'
However, as the competition's heating up, Burke says Rob Kardashian is working hard, losing weight and even donning tank tops as his confidence grows.
While the concept that any of the Kardashians could suffer from a lack of confidence seems unlikely, Burke says that her partner does.
She wrote in 'People' that he was "really happy" when Carrie Ann Inaba said he's a better dancer than his sister Kim.
"It's just nice to hear positive feedback, especially for Rob. He does have his insecurities and he does have low self-confidence. I think it really pushed him to do even better this week."
Burke also says her competitive partner's not going to be relying solely on the public vote to carry him through to the finals. "No one wants to get a bad score ... and the only way to avoid that is to really work hard. He's taken it seriously from the beginning, but I think now he wants to make sure he improves every week."
And yes, Kardashian's the latest celebrity to endorse the health and weight loss benefits of appearing on 'Dancing With the Stars.' (Seriously, when is ABC going to launch the diet and workout spin-off show?)
Like so many previous contestants Kardashian's dropping the pounds thanks to the punishing cardio workouts he gets in the daily training sessions. Even if he doesn't go on to win the mirrorball trophy, can he beat out previous male weight loss champs Kyle Massey and John Slattery?
Burke says she's really noticed the difference in Kardashian's weight and confidence. "I can tell Rob is getting more comfortable with his body because he's starting to wear tank tops to rehearsals. And you'll see his arms out. In the beginning, you'd never see that. He looks at himself in the mirror. It's really cute."
Last night the hard work and newfound confidence paid off for Burke and Kardashian as the judges awarded them a solid 24 points for their foxtrot. Can they go all the way to the mirrorball? Stay tuned for updates.
