World News - A new round of rain and floods hit parts of central China, on Thursday (09/06/2011) night and Friday, killing 50 people and caused 40 people missing in the four provinces affected by drought.

Heavy rains triggered floods and landslides that destroyed homes and destroying river dikes in Hubei Province, central China, killing 25 people and caused at least 12 others missing on the night of Friday, said a spokesman for the provincial civil affairs department.

So far, more than 127,500 people forced to flee their homes and flooding has caused direct economic losses worth 866 million yuan (133 million U.S. dollars) in the province, the spokesman said.

Most of the deaths reportedly occurred in the city of Xianning, the heavy rain on Thursday from 22.00 local time to Friday at 05.00. More than 100 people were injured in floods in Xianning, said a spokesman for the affairs of the city flood and drought control headquarters.

In the city Tongcheng County, which is almost submerged in water, the rainfall reached 300 mm in four hours, the volume of the worst in 200 years.
