World News - Government of Serbia have arrested Ratko Mladic, a Bosnian Serb army general notoriety in the 1990s wars in the Balkans. Mladic is responsible for the massacre thousands of Bosnian Muslims. He has long been wanted by the International Court in The Hague, Netherlands.
According to VOA News, the arrest of Mladic was announced by the President of Serbia, Boris Tadic, Thursday, May 26, 2011. "On behalf of the Republic of Serbia, I was able to announce the arrest of Ratko Mladic. the ongoing extradition process," Tadic said in a press conference in Belgrade. He was immediately taken to jail in The Hague for trial.
Mladic has been hunted by law enforcement UN Criminal Court for war crimes he did in the former Yugoslavia fractions. Court has indicted Mladic in 1995 for atrocities carried out during the three years troops surrounded the city of Sarajevo in Bosnia.
Mladic, who is now 69 years old, is also responsible for the 8000 killing of Bosnian Muslims, both male adults and children, near the town of Srebrenica. "These arrests diminish the burden of Serbia and closing the dark history of our sheets," said Tadic.
Last week, Chief Prosecutor Team to the UN Criminal Court, Serge Brammertz, criticized Serbia for not optimal hunting Mladic and other fugitives who are also charged with committing war crimes, Goran Hadzic.
Among European Union officials also have said that the arrest of Mladic could be a determinant for Serbia in order to enter into the new EU member candidates.
