Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant operator said radioactive iodine-131 7.5 million times higher than legal limits were detected in samples of sea water near the plant.

Radiation in the Sea 7.5 Million Times Exceed Normal Limits
Tokyo Electric Power Company or Tepco on Saturday, April 2 finds contaminated water leaking from cracks in the concrete channels in reactor No. 2.

Experts say this makes more clear that radioactive substances from the reactor to flow into the sea and the leak must be stopped immediately.

Tepco said water samples taken near the water line entering the reactor No. 2 at 11:50 local time on Saturday, April 2. Water contains yaodium 300 thousand becquerels per cubic centimeter-131, or 7.5 million times over the legal limit. Thus was launched NHK, Tuesday (05/04/2011).

Tepco said, on water samples taken Monday, April 4 at 09:00 local time that number decreased to 200,000 becquerels per cubic centimeter, or 5 million times over the legal limit.

Samples taken on Monday, also containing radioactive cesium 137 1.1 million times higher than legal limits.

On 27 March, the water level of radiation 13 million iodine-131 becquerels per cubic centimeter were detected in the turbine building of reactor No. 2. On Wednesday, March 30, the water was found to accumulate in the channel near the turbine building and the level of radiation on the surface of the channel is measured more than 1,000 millisieverts per hour.

Industrial and Nuclear Safety Agency believes the radioactive substances from nuclear fuel that leaked from the reactor into the water and flows out.
