Traces of radioactive iodine is detected in Seoul, South Korea (ROK). However, radiation levels reportedly does not endanger human safety.
Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (Kins) claimed to find traces of radioactive iodine-131 in Seoul. This substance was found after researchers analyzed air samples from 12 sites in South Korea. So reported Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday (29/03/2011).
Kins ensure its iodine number is very small, so no need to take emergency precautions for the health of the community or the environment.
It is estimated that radioactive traces were from a nuclear power plant (NPP) Fukushima Daiichi in Japan. NPP was severely damaged after the earthquake and tsunami hit last March 11.
The waters around the power plant is known to contain radioactive iodine from 1859 times the normal limit. Although in the end it is not clear whether the radioactive contamination has spread into the Pacific Ocean.
