LIBYA - One of the sons of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi said the family was not afraid of the UN decision authorizing air attacks against supporters of his father's troops.
"We were in our own country and with our people. And we do not feel afraid, "said Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, in an interview with ABC news station.
"We will not fear. Give me a break! We will not fear. In my opinion, you do not help people if you want to bomb Libya, killing the people of Libya. You destroy your own country. No one is happy about it, "Seif said as quoted by AFP on Friday (18/03/2011).
Earlier, the Security Council (BOC), the UN approved military action to stop attacks on the opposition Gaddafi government. The resolution paves the way for air strikes by the first bomb attack that will be done within a few hours.
Seif said the resolution was unfair and denied the news that his father said troops killed civilians when they want to take back the city that dominated the opposition in recent weeks.
"It's not fair because, as you know, from the beginning we've said there was no air attacks on civilians, no bombing of civilian areas or demonstrations.
"Did you ever see a single one of civilians killed? Even terrorist or armed men did not exist. They just gave up. So there is no bloodshed in Libya, "said Seif.
Seif also said one of four New York Times reporter who disappeared earlier this week while covering the fighting in eastern Libya have been arrested and would soon be released.
