Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Leaks, Tepco vice president apologizes

Vice President (VP) Tepco Tsunehisa Katsumata apologized for the leakage of radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant which has caused confusion and anxiety in the community.

Katsumata statement in front of journalists is the first time since the existence of problems in nuclear power plants. Meanwhile, President Tepco Masataka Shimizu, was admitted to hospital because of hypertension and dizziness on Tuesday, March 29 evening.

Katsumata feel sorry to the local residents who have evacuated or are prohibited from going out because of radiation from nuclear power plants while they also have to face the impact of earthquakes and aftershocks.

Katsumata also acknowledge Tepco not been able to cool the reactor and promised maximum effort to stabilize the reactor utuk. He added, reactor No. 1 to No. 4 at the end of the reactor to be shut down for good.

"Tepco was preparing for compensation in accordance with the law for damages caused by the leakage of radiation," Katsumata said as quoted by NHK on Wednesday (30/03/2011).

NPP operator company vice president also expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused by rolling blackouts by Tepco to overcome the severe power shortage since the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.

Katsumata said Tepco will do my best and work with government to minimize or avoid rolling blackouts this summer.
