Rangers secured second place in the Scottish Premier League in
style with a commanding 5-0 win over Dundee United.
Sone Aluko grabbed a double and Steven Whittaker, Jamie Ness and Alejandro
Bedoya claimed a goal apiece as the Glasgow giants ended any hope of Motherwell
beating them to the runners-up spot.
However, with United now unable to catch the Steelmen in third place, the
result at Ibrox also hands Motherwell a crack at the Champions League qualifiers
next season, with administration-hit Rangers ineligible for a UEFA licence.
Hibernian took a massive step towards avoiding relegation with a nervy
2-1 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
The visitors broke the deadlock when a Leigh Griffiths cross was turned into
his own net by Mark Reynolds after seven minutes.
Sean O'Hanlon doubled the lead when he headed home 10 minutes later, but the
Dons were much improved in the second half and Scott Vernon pulled a goal back
after 53 minutes with a neat finish from close range.
First-half goals from Paul McGowan and Steven Thompson helped St Mirren
to a 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
McGowan opened the scoring after nine minutes when he charged forward and
coolly slotted beyond Cammy Bell.
On the stroke of half-time Thompson doubled Saints' advantage, when he blasted
home from Nigel Hasselbaink's cut-back
Kilmarnock were handed a lifeline 10 minutes into the second half when Darren
McGregor was adjudged to have handled Dean Shiels' shot inside the area.
Shiels stepped up to take the resulting kick but was denied by Craig Samson.
Inverness secured their top flight status in a nervy
goalless draw that leaves Dunfermline with a mountain to climb to avoid
relegation.
Caley Thistle had the better of the game but missed a number of chances to
secure their first home victory in eight games with Graeme Shinnie among the
most culpable.
Kyle Hutton and Martin Hardie had shots from good positions saved in each half
as the visitors failed to maintain their recent goalscoring surge.
