Solskjaer, 39, is currently in charge of Molde, where he led the club to their first Norwegian league title in October last year.

Villa are currently on the hunt for a new boss after sacking Alex McLeish following a disappointing season which yielded just seven wins from 38 Premier League matches.

Former Manchester United Solskjaer is said to be high on Villa's list of targets to succeed the Scot, although it remains to be seen if he would leave Molde, where he is contracted for a further two years.

Roberto Martinez, Paul Lambert and Brendan Rodgers have also been linked with the position at Villa Park, with owner Randy Lerner under pressure to make the right appointment following increasing criticism from the supporters.
