Manchester United winger Nani believes Portugal's opponents at Euro 2012 will be aware of the threat posed by Paulo Bento's side, and insists Germany will be nervous when the two nations meet in their opening game.
Germany are among the favourites to claim European Championship glory in Ukraine and Poland, with Joachim Low's talented squad boasting strength all over the pitch.
However, Nani feels that Portugal - losing finalists at Euro 2004 - are equally well-equipped and should be considered serious contenders for a first major interna tional title this summer.
"If we are feeling anxiety, they will feel it too, because they will be playing against Portugal," Nani said. "They know who they will be playing against and what Portugal have.
"I have been hearing a lot of things about Germany, Netherlands and Denmark, but they must have heard about Portugal, too.
"Germany have an excellent team, I have to admit, we have to be humble and respect them, but they will have to respect us too. We will not want to make life easy for them, we will not want to let them play their game and we will try to play our own."
Having missed out on playing at the 2010 World Cup after suffering a knee injury in the build up to the finals, Nani is determined to be involved this time.
"I am more experienced now, of course I will not make the same mistakes," he said. "I will try to be well prepared to be in the best possible shape as soon as the competition starts."
Portugal have reached at least the quarter-finals on each of their five appearances at the European Championship, but were handed a tricky draw this year alongside Germany, Netherlands and Denmark in Group B.
