Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger expressed little interest in taking the Barcelona job on Friday, with Pep Guardiola to vacate his post at the end of the season.

Guardiola has led Barcelona to the most successful period in the club's history during a four-year spell. Three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns, in addition to several other trophies, reflect an era of dominance over European football.

However, it is the style in which Guardiola achieved his success that won most admirers. Playing a one-touch pass-and-move brand of football, the Catalans have set an example that many clubs are trying to replicate.

Wenger has always championed such football himself, always attempting to promote a passing ethos at Arsenal, and he says he is disappointed to see the Barca coach leave.

"It comes as a surprise to me," Wenger said. "After a disappointment like he has had in the last week [losing to Real Madrid and Chelsea], it's not always a great time to make such a decision.

"I would have liked to see Guardiola stay and persist with his philosop hy at that club. That would have been interesting."

Wenger is one of the few managers who could continue the work done by Guardiola at the Camp Nou but, when asked if he fancied the job, the Frenchman replied: "I'm happy here."
