During Friday's press conference ahead of United's weekend meeting with QPR, Ferguson was quizzed about comments made by City boss Roberto Mancini on his striker Mario Balotelli.

Mancini has claimed he would "punch" Balotelli if he were a team-mate of the Italian, following yet more attention being focused on the forward's hot-headed ways.

When asked if he had ever felt like punching someone, Ferguson joked: "Strangle them maybe. Players ca n frustrate you. But it is a difficult industry we are in."

Ferguson went on to confirm winger Nani is back in contention for the clash against QPR at Old Trafford on Sunday after the Portuguese had been out with an ankle injury.

"Nani is back training," he said. "He is a good addition because he is such a talented player."

The Scot also hailed the form of Nani's fellow winger Antonio Valencia, whose stunning goal helped United to a late win over Blackburn on Monday night to open up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

He said: "As far as his form is concerned, what can you say? Antonio has been unbelievable. Absolutely brilliant. When you have someone like that coming back to their very best, at this time of year, it is a bonus."
