Liverpool's principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner chose to miss the FA Cup semi-final against Everton after flying back to the United
States.

The pair were on Merseyside earlier in the week to oversee the departures of
director of football Damien Comolli and head of sports medicine and sports
science Peter Brukner.

However, the club have confirmed they opted to to fly home to watch Boston Red
Sox's first home match of the Major League Baseball season on Friday night.

Henry and Werner were widely expected to attend the Wembley showdown against
the club's near-neighbours - which has taken on additional significance in the
wake of poor recent league form - but it turned out their presence was for more
pressing business matters.

The two leading figures in Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's owners, held talks
with manager Kenny Dalglish during their time in the city but Werner said on
Thursday that the Scot's position was not under immediate threat.
