Two late goals ensured a winning start to the new Mexican Clausura season for Club America as they triumphed 2-0 at Queretaro.
Christian Benitez set the visitors on their way with the opening goal 20
minutes from time and Diego Reyes made sure of the points in the final minute.
There were also victories on Saturday for Monterrey, Atlante and San Luis.
Walter Ayovi bagged two goals in three minutes at the start of the second half
for Monterrey in their 2-1 win against Jaguares, for whom Jackson Martinez
netted a late consolation.
Michael Arroyo's goal a minute before half-time earned Atlante a 1-0 win at
Guadalajara, whose misery was compounded by the last-gasp dismissal of Patricio
Araujo.
Ten-man San Luis edged past Unam Pumas 1-0 thanks to Jehu Chiapas' 42nd-minute
strike, the hosts holding on despite the 34th-minute dismissal of Anibal
Matellan.
Elsewhere on the opening weekend, Cruz Azul and Tigres Monterrey battled out a
1-1 draw, Christian Gimenez's early opener cancelled out by Lucas Lobos 19
minutes from the end.
Finally, the match between Santos Laguna and Pachuca ended goalless, the hosts
having Ibanez Jimenez sent off in the 88th minute.
