Former captain Emmanuel Adebayor returned to the side and helped Togo to a 1-0 win away to Guinea-Bissau, to book their place in the second round of African qualifying for the 2014 World Cup - 2-1 on aggregate.

Adebayor, currently on loan at Tottenham, is a massive figure in his homeland, but it was Serge Gakpe who netted the deciding goal in the second minute.

Congo DR ran out 5-1 winners against Swaziland with an 8-2 aggregate thrashing of Swaziland. TP Mazembe striker Tresor Mputu and Al-Ahly Doha's Dioko Kaluyituka netted two goals apiece, with Yves Diba Ilunga getting the fifth after Sidumo Shongwe's consolation.

Madagascar came from behind to beat Equatorial Guinea 2-1, but just missed out on a place in the next round as they lost 3-2 on aggregate.

Burundi also had to mount a comeback, 2-1 at home to Lesotho, and managed to secure progress as Saidi Tama Nduwimana's 88th-minute penalty sent them through on away goals as they had won the first leg 1-0.

Tanzania progressed on the away goals rule thanks to their 2-1 win in the first leg over Chad, despite losing 1-0 at home and Congo were held 1-1 by Sao Tome and Principe, but strolled through courtesy of their 5-0 victory in the first leg.

Kenya defeated Seychelles 4-0 at home to complete a 7-0 aggregate win, while Rwanda downed Eritrea 3-1 away from home to win through 4-2 on aggregate.
