Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos is grateful to the men who rescued him from kidnappers in Venezuela, and he's also happy to be single.
Ramos was abducted at his mother's home by four armed gunmen on Wednesday. Two days later, National Guardsmen staged a rescue in the remote mountains of Venezuela that resulted in a firefight and the arrest of four kidnappers and an elderly couple believed to have given the men food and shelter.
Authorities are still searching for four Columbian men also involved in the incident, reports the Associated Press.
Ramos met with reporters Saturday and, according to a translation by sportswriter Rafael Rojas, was thankful he didn't have a wife to think about during the ordeal: "Now it's time for me to enjoy my family, my baseball and the fact I'm single, no girlfriend."

Ramos choked up when discussing his rescuers and the risks they took to save him, "I wasn't expecting it, the place they were keeping me was very remote. These guys risked their lives to save me and I'm very thankful to them."
Washington Nationals general manager said in a statement,"I am happy to announce that I have spoken directly with Wilson and he assures me he is unharmed but eager to be reunited with his family. He asked me to thank all who played a role in his rescue and all those who kept him and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
"I join Wilson in thanking the many law enforcement officials in Venezuela and investigators with Major League Baseball who worked tirelessly to ensure a positive ending to what has been a frightening ordeal. The only detail that concerns us is that Wilson is safe. The entire Washington Nationals family is thankful that Wilson Ramos is coming home."
Kidnapping is relatively commonplace in Venezuela; Ramos is believed to be the first major league baseball player to be abducted in the country.
