Emma Stone and Coldplay may have brought the funny on Saturday Night Live, but they couldn't ride the highs from the previous edition led by Charlie Day and Maroon 5.
Last night's SNL, complete with an updated Spider-Man monologue and special guest Andrew Garfield, averaged a 4.5 rating in metered-market households for NBC. That number is down from last week's 4.9 rating, which was the late-night sketch comedy show's top-rated since the Melissa McCarthy-hosted effort in early October.

Thus far this season, last night's SNL is the lowest-rated episode. It also marked Stone's second time hosting the show, which featured skits commenting on the Penn State controversy and Rick Perry's Republican presidential debate gaffe.
In the Local People Meters, SNL averaged a 2.7 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, up 8 percent compared to the comparable telecast last year hosted by Scarlett Johansson with musical guest Arcade Fire (that episode drew a 2.5) and tying McCarthy's average. Compared to the Day-Maroon 5 episode, SNL was down a tenth to tie as the second highest-rated episode in Local People Meters since the season closer with Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga on May 21.
Next week, The Muppets and How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel hosts with musical guest Florence and the Machine. Former SNL regular and current Late Night host Jimmy Fallon returns in December with Michael Buble.
