Defending champion Andy Murray moved into the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-4 3-6 6-3 victory against Stanislas Wawrinka.
The British number one served impressively to take the first set, but his Swiss opponent broke in the eighth game of the second to level.
Murray went 5-0 ahead in the final set and though Wawrinka took the next three games, the Scot held on to win.
He now meets the winner of the Gilles Simon-Matthew Ebden encounter.
It was Murray's first match in the tournament after a bye and a walkover.
The in-form Murray, seeded second behind Rafael Nadal, has won 22 of his past 23 matches.
Spaniard Nadal was playing German Florian Mayer in his third-round tie on Wednesday.
