Philadelphia (4-1-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead when Claude Giroux scored at 14:25 in the first period but it was all Washington from there.

Washington goaltender Tomas Vokoun finished with 40 saves and did not allow another score until Sean Couturier put in a wrist shot with 15 seconds remaining in the game.

By then the visiting Capitals had scored five straight goals to hand the Flyers their first regulation loss of the season.

Mathieu Perreault and Ovechkin netted for the Capitals in the first period, and after a scoreless second, Roman Hamrlik, Ovechkin and Joel Ward all netted goals in a two-and-a-half minute blitz in the third to build an unassailable 5-1 lead.
