Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen has conceded he should be taking a share of the criticism currently being meted out to team-mate Theo Janssen.
Janssen arrived at Ajax from FC Twente during the summer with the weight of expectation on his shoulders having been crowned Dutch Player of the Year on the back of his performances last season.
But he and the majority his new team-mates at the reigning Eredivise champions have failed miserably to replicate their form of the 2010-11 campaign, with Frank De Boer's side in the middle of a t errible run of one win in seven games - that coming against minnows Noordwijk in the KNVB Beker.
Janssen has taken the brunt of fans' criticism so far but Eriksen, who has been monitored by some of Europe's biggest clubs over the past 12 months, believes he should take some of the flak.
"I have been relatively spared," Eriksen said. "All the criticism has gone to Theo Janssen and that is undeserved. They can also check out to see if I have been running the midfield. I find it ridiculous that all the criticism is directed at one player.''
Eriksen also expressed his frustration at the fact he had not played recently in his more customary attacking midfield role.
"I am better at number 10," he said. "I like the freedom to roam right or left. That's how I was trained and it feels natural to me.''
