Frank took center stage this week on 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' in an episode that took us back to his wayward youth when he somehow still looked like a 66-year old Danny DeVito. It was triggered when his brother showed up and Frank smashed glass over his head.
Probably one of the funniest things about the flashbacks was that both he and character actor Jon Polito played their younger selves, with terrible 1960s wigs. Even better, everyone around DeVito kept insisting he looked 12, instead of the 19 he supposedly was.
It was a love story that tore the brothers apart with a back-up singer named Shadynasty (pronounced shuh-dynasty and not shady-nasty). But her true love turned out to be Reggie, played almost unrecognizably at first by Lance Reddick ('Fringe').
While the episode was more weird than hilarious, we loved the payoff at the airport when both Shadynasty and Reggie turned up and turned out to be way fatter and uglier than everyone imagined them -- and we saw -- during the telling of the story.
Other than that the funniest bits were the recurring bits of racism in the telling of the story that the gang called Frank and Gino on.
