Watson had not dropped a set before losing to Paszek
Heather Watson has lost to Austrian third seed Tamira Paszek at the quarter-final stage of the Quebec City Bell Challenge event in Canada.
The British number three went down 6-4, 7-6 in Quebec City in her first tournament since the US Open.
There was more heartache for Watson in the doubles as she and partner Kathrin Woerle threw away five match points.
The pair lost 4-6, 6-3, 13-11 to top-seeded pair Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears.
