Russian tennis star Anna Chakvetadze could struggle to continue her playing career while running for parliament, compatriot Maria Sharapova has warned.
Chakvetadze, 24, is one of the three parliamentary candidates put forward by the Right Cause Party, a pro-business party with limited public support.
But the former world number five missed much of 2011 through illness.
"It's tough to do two big things at the same time but if she feels strong about it, it's [her] choice," said Sharapova.

Chakvetadze withdrew from a host of tournaments this year with a mystery illness.
She played at Wimbledon, but was beaten in straight sets by Sharapova and is currently ranked 157 in the world.
