Everton have snapped up free-agent American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann on a short-term deal until January.
Hahnemann was released by Wolves at the end of last season, but the former Reading and Fulham man is still a vastly experienced stopper and has been drafted in to play back-up to fellow countryman Tim Howard and Slovakia international Jan Mucha.
Howard is the undisputed No. 1 at the club, with Mucha given Carling Cup duties, although Hahnemann will be hoping to impress enough to earn himself a permanent deal on Merseyside.
Manager David Moyes maintained that the reason he went for Hahneman n was to bolster the goalkeeping ranks.
He said: "We have only got two so I felt we needed someone before the window closed and I have been on the look out for a keeper. He is experienced and will give us that bit of extra cover we were after."
Meanwhile, Tranmere have secured the services of Everton youngster Jose Baxter on a one-month loan deal.
Rovers manager Les Parry said: "I'm delighted to be able to bring Jose to the club. We watch Everton reserves a lot and he's tailor made for that role just behind the striker. He sees a pass, he can score a goal and he has great awareness. Plus he can tackle and put himself about, so he brings to us everything we're looking for."
