Southampton remained top of the Championship after snatching a 1-1 draw at Burnley with a late equaliser.
After a lively first half at Turf Moor, the Clarets pressed for the opener
after the break which came through Charlie Austin.
The former Swindon striker got to a knockdown in the box ahead of Jose Fonte to
fire Burnley into the lead in the 53rd minute.
Southampton unleashed a barrage of attacks in a bid to get back into the game
and eked out a leveller with 10 minutes remaining through Morgan Schneiderlin.
Nigel Adkins' side lead the table ahead of Middlesbrough, who had to settle for
a 0-0 home draw with Ipswich Town.
Derby County closed the gap on the top two with a thumping 3-0 victory against
Millwall at the Pride Park.
Craig Bryson and Jeff Hendrick netted for the Rams in the first half, before
Steve Davies wrapped up victory in the 65th minute.
Mark Noble's 11th-minute penalty helped West Ham United to a 1-0 win against
Peterborough United, which moved Sam Allardyce's side up to fourth place.
Erik Huseklepp's second-half stoppage-time goal gave Portsmouth a 1-0 win
against Blackpool, while John Oster's 65th-minute strike gave Doncaster Rovers a win by
the same scoreline against Crystal Palace in Dean Saunders' first match as
Rovers manager.
Birmingham City looked as if they would fall to a home defeat to Barnsley after
Jacob Butterfield scored in the 33rd minute, but Chris Burke secured a 1-1 draw
with four minutes remaining.
Bristol City were in the same position after Robert Koren netted for Hull City but
they equalised at Ashton Gate through Brett Pitman late on.
Coventry City and Reading also ended 1-1 after goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Gary McSheffrey gave the home side a second-minute lead, although Simon Church
levelled eight minutes later.
