Van Buyten's previous terms were due to expire this summer, but Bayern have moved to tie him down on a fresh deal that will keep the centre-back at the Allianz Arena until 2013.

The Belgian, who has played 133 games for the Bundesliga side since joining from Hamburg in 2006, has recently been sidelined with a broken toe.

But Van Buyten is now back in training and, with Holger Badstuber suspended, is expected to start this month's Champions League final against Chelsea.

"We are pleased that Daniel will still be playing for Bayern Munich next season," said Bayern's director of sport Christian Nerlinger on his club's website.

"We know what we get with him. His qualities and experience will remain an important component of our squad in future."
