Football News : Mexico: Club America blow lead, Tijuana held

Bookmark and Share

Club America squandered a two-goal lead against Cruz Azul and missed out on the
chance to go second in Mexico's Clausura as a result.

Christian Benitez netted twice inside the first 13 minutes to put the home side
in control of the contest.

But Jair Pereira pulled a goal back midway through the first half and earned
his team a point with an equaliser 17 minutes from time - before marring his
performance with a late dismissal.

The two dropped points mean Santos Laguna maintain a four-point advantage at
the top of the table.

Tijuana and Unam Pumas drew 1-1, with Duvier Riascos putting Tijuana ahead,
only for Javier Cortes to take advantage of the 87th minute sending-off of the
home side's Joshua Abrego with an equaliser two minutes later.

Toluca defeated struggling San Luis 2-1, with Ivan Alonso netting both goals
for the hosts, either side of Facundo Pereyra's 58th-minute equaliser.
