Robben, 27, has scored four goals in eight appearances in the German Bundesliga in an injury-hit season to date and has been slammed for not passing the ball to his team-mates. However, the Dutchman claimed that it is a trait that makes him one of the best midfielders in the game.

"Attackers have to be selfish on the pitch occasionally, but it's important not to exaggerate," Robben was quoted as saying by kicker. "Forwards do a lot of things intuitively. I play like that, and so does [Franck] Ribery. Our unpredictability is one of our strengths. Selfishness is a quality and not necessarily a bad thing."

The midfielder was lambasted for attacking team-mate Thomas Muller after an altercation last season which had its roots in Robben's selfish play.
