The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Winnipeg.
"It was a tough turnaround for them," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock told reporters. "We knew if we could play with some energy, we could eventually wear them out."
Todd Bertuzzi and Henrik Zetterberg responded for Detroit to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead before the end of the opening period.
"Getting a goal first shift, you couldn't ask for a better start but it was all downhill from there," said Jets goal scorer Bryan Little.
"We learned what it's like to play against one of the best teams in the league. So far, they've given us the best game, I think. They've been the toughest team we've played."
Jiri Hudler scored the first of his two goals early in the second period and 40 seconds later Chris Conner's c entering pass went in off the heel of Jets defenseman Randy Jones and the rout was underway.
Valtteri Filppula and Drew Miller also scored for Detroit, who received scoring contributions from throughout their lineup as six skaters registered two points each.
"It seemed like everybody in the offensive zone was open," said Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec, who was pulled after Detroit's seventh goal.
"They move very well in the zone. They handle the puck really well. Sometimes they had scoring chances and would handle the puck, make a pass and get better scoring chances."
Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard made 29 saves for his league-leading 17th win.
