After an easy Wednesday win for Fox, airing the first half of The X Factor's two-part finale, the network topped itself for Thursday night's broadcast.
Part two of the season one closer, which found Melanie Amaro singing her victory song, jumped from a 3.3 rating among adults 18-49 on Wednesday, to a 3.8 rating on Thursday in the same demo. Viewership for the two-hour broadcast averaged at 12.4 million between 8 and 10 p.m.
Fox scored an overall average of 3.8 for the night, with no additional programming scheduled. The X Factor alone eclipsed competitors, with CBS rating 1.8 in the key demo to pull in second place. NBC and ABC scored a 1.1 and 1.0 among adults, respectively, while the CW trailed with a 0.5 rating in the same group.
In its first season, the freshman singing competition averaged a 4.2/12 rating in the key demo and 12.4 million viewers. Overall, The X Factor has lifted Fox's ratings on Wednesdays by 48% and on Thursdays by 46%. For the first time in the network's history, Fox has landed the No. 1 spot on Thursday nights in the fall.
