Entertainment News : NBC Gives 'Grimm' a Full Season and a New Night

Well, we were right: The ax-wielders over at NBC have decided to give fledgling drama 'Grimm' time to find its feet and develop an audience. 'Entertainment Weekly' reports that the network has placed a full series order, making 'Grimm' the only new NBC hour-long series to get a "back nine" episode order this fall.

NBC President, Robert Greenblatt, said "We are very pleased to be making a full-season commitment for 'Grimm.' This series is turning the traditional procedural drama on its head and is attracting a loyal following for us on Friday nights. We love where it's going creatively and we're excited to deliver more episodes to our audience."

So far, so good, but if the series is doing so well on Fridays, why is NBC moving it -- albeit temporarily -- to Thursday? The answer lies partly in the rather large 'Prime Suspect'-sized hole in the Thursday schedule.

Although 'Prime Suspect' has not been officially cancelled (yet), the new procedural was conspicuously absent from NBC's midseason schedule and last week the network announced that it was shutting down production on the series. New drama 'The Firm' has taken over 'Prime Suspect's 10PM ET Thursday slot, but will vacate it on December 8 in order to give 'Grimm' a shot at the big leagues.

A new episode of 'Grimm' will also air the following night, in its usual 9PM ET Friday slot. 'Grimm' has been trouncing 'Fringe' in the Friday night ratings, which is admittedly not that hard to do this season after the Fox drama's numbers have been holding steady at an all-time series low for the last few weeks.

However, the fairytale-inspired procedural has pulled in an average of 6.9 million viewers and a respectable 2.3 rating/7 share in the coveted adults aged 18-49 demographic. In fact, it's even started challenging 'CSI: New York,' which airs at the same time on CBS. Given that NBC's once-promising midseason drama 'Awake' is reportedly in deep trouble, a respectable outing for 'Grimm' on a Thursday night could possibly herald a fulltime move.

'Grimm' airs Fridays, 9PM ET on NBC.
