Entertainment News : 'Boycott Kim Kardashian' Petition Picks Up Steam Online

Bookmark and Share

When it comes to Kim Kardashian and her family, there are several different sentiments. Some people absolutely can't get enough of them, others can't be bothered either way, and then there's that group of haters -- we're sure you know someone in this camp -- who want nothing more than to rid humanity of any Kardashian reference.

Well, 41-year-old Colorado woman Cyndy Snider took that hate and ran with it, according to The Daily Mail. Two days after Kardashian's fairy tale marriage to NBAer Kris Humphries ended with her filing for divorce, Snider started an online petition, begging TV network E! to take 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' off the air. The petition has now gone viral.

The petition states:

"Dear E! Online,

We are respectfully requesting that your network find other shows to air.

'Keeping up with the Kardashians' is just not viewing that we the public, would like to see from your network. Enough is enough."

As of now, more than 165,000 people have signed the petition, and 77,000 have recommended it to their Facebook friends. Disgusted with what she views as a complete sham, Snider thinks Kim Kardashian is out for money and will do anything to get more of it. Even worse, she sees many people around her jumping onto the Kardashian bandwagon.

"We feel that these shows are mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption," Snider said. "While some may have begun watching the spectacle as mindless entertainment or as a sort of 'reality satire,' it is a sad truth that many young people are looking up to this family and are modeling their appearance and behavior after them."

Snider's referring site, BoycottKim.com, and others, like BoycotttheKardashians.com, seem to be gaining ground (the petition site has crashed multiple times due to high traffic to the petition). Anti-Kardashian sentiment is spreading across the country -- but Snider and others like her will have a lot of ground to cover if they ever expect to make any real headway. Kim and her sisters are involved with an infinitesimal number of businesses and products, not limited to but including Skechers, jewellery and clothing lines, Kardashian Glamour Tan, and a clothing boutique. Kim also has a perfume, natch. Even brother Rob Kardashian is riding the fame wave with his second-place finish on 'Dancing With the Stars.'

One also can't ignore Kim's 10 million Twitter followers or the countless millions that tuned in to watch her over-the-top nuptials. As of this post, E! has not commented on the petition or the various boycott websites.
