MONDAY, OCTOBER 3
'How I Met Your Mother' (8PM ET, CBS)
Last week's hilarious episode was a return to form for the aging comedy, and we're hoping that tonight's offering can maintain that momentum. After Robin assaults a girl who is out to ruin Barney's relationship, she is forced to begin court-mandated therapy sessions. Meanwhile, Ted gets too involved in Lily's pregnancy. Featuring Kal Penn as Robin's therapist, in his first acting role since joining the Obama Administration -- you go, Kumar!
'House' (9PM ET, Fox) season premiere
After last season's controversial finale, we pick up one year later, with everyone's favorite Vicodin addict behind bars. When an antagonistic prison gang leader makes a serious threat, House solicits the help of a fellow inmate (guest star Jaleel White), but when another inmate's unusual medical symptoms spark his curiosity, House must come up with creative ways to treat the patient while navigating prison rules.
'Hawaii Five-0' (10PM ET, CBS)
Attention, 'Lost'ies, Terry O'Quinn returns as McGarrett's mentor, Commander White, in this week's episode. Spurred on by White, McGarrett persuades Max to redo the autopsy on a SEAL, thought to have committed suicide, in order to investigate his murder. Meanwhile, Chin Ho worries about Kono hanging out with a group of dirty ex-cops, including Frank Delano (William Baldwin).
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4
The cultural rollercoaster has had its share of ups and downs, but with the introduction of a new writing staff, Fox is likely hoping that 'Glee' is back on the rise. This week's episode doesn't offer much that we haven't seen before (Rachel's still a diva, Kurt's still angsting) except for a welcome spotlight on the underutilized Mike Chang and a visit from Emma's unsupportive parents. An excellent 'Dreamgirls' homage starring Mercedes and impressive dance routine from Brittany elevate things above average.
'Ringer' (9PM ET, The CW)
Last week's episode finally offered some character insight and actual story advancement (and not a body-in-a-trunk in sight!) and we're hoping things continue to develop now that all the pieces are in place. Bridget and Andrew head to the Hamptons with Gemma and Henry to celebrate "Siobhan's" birthday. Despite the close quarters, Henry is dead-set on rekindling his affair with Siobhan. Gemma learns some unsettling news, while FBI agent Victor Machado closes in on some new information, which forces Bridget to reveal some of her past in order to protect her secrets.
'New Girl' (9PM ET, Fox)
The guys are invited to a wedding of a mutual friend. Nick, fearful he will run into his ex-girlfriend Caroline (guest star Mary Elizabeth Ellis), asks Jess to be his date. Meanwhile, Winston takes his role as an usher very seriously and gets competitive on the dance floor with a young guest. Schmidt not only catches the eye of a beautiful woman (guest star Katie Cassidy), but also his "frenemy" Gretchen (guest star Natasha Lyonne) whom he sleeps with at every wedding reception.
'Parenthood' (10P ET, NBC)
Still the best family drama that not enough folks are watching: Zeek lands his first commercial, prompting Camille to reflect on her own achievements. Sarah and Mark take their friendship to a new level while Haddie and Alex (guest star Michael B. Jordan) grow apart. Meanwhile, brothers Crosby and Adam disagree over a minor parenting crisis, Drew's first date with Amy (guest star Skyler Day) doesn't go as planned and Jabbar and Max hit a rough patch in their friendship.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5
Do you love this snarktastic suburban comedy as much as we do? In the second episode, Tessa is horrified when she finds herself unexpectedly attracted to her exact opposite, her jock suburban neighbor (Parker Young), while George is pressured by the town to throw the perfect barbecue.
'Raising Hope' (9.30PM ET, Fox) special night and time
Virginia, Burt, Jimmy and Sabrina head to Las Vegas to attend Virginia's cousin Delilah's (Amy Sedaris) wedding. Virginia is embarrassed that she didn't have the big wedding that her snooty cousin will have, so Burt attempts to make it up to her. Meanwhile, Jimmy tries to make a move on Sabrina who wants to go wild in Vegas.
'American Horror Story' (10PM ET, FX) series premiere
One of the weirdest shows ever committed to celluloid, this trippy, "psychosexual thriller" from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk isn't half as clever as it thinks it is, but the first five minutes are undeniably spooky. Tune in just to see Jessica Lange having a lot of scenery-chewing fun as Connie Britton (save her!) and Dylan McDermott's unabashedly offensive neighbor.
'Nick Swardson's Pretend Time' (10.30PM ET, Comedy Central) season premiere
A surrealistic sketch show in which each sketch is filtered through the absurd point-of-view of stand-up comedian Nick Swardson. Skits include the adventures of a wheelchair-bound cat, space alien paternity tests and a man's unique face transplant. In between sketches, Swardson performs stand-up in front of an audience and is joined by back up guitarist, Beardo.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6
It seems like Raj is bouncing back from his close encounter with Penny with a new lady friend; this week's episode introduces Emily (Katie LeClerc) a girl that our shy nerd can actually communicate with.
'Parks and Recreation' (8.30PM ET, NBC)
The new season has been hilarious so far, and that trend is set to continue with upcoming episodes. While promoting her new book about Pawnee, Leslie falls prey to some "gotcha" journalism. Meanwhile, Ann is determined to bond with Ron and April.
'The League' (10.30PM ET, FX) season premiere
The terrible reign of Ruxin as League Champion continues while the guys devise a grand plan with Rafi and Dirty Randy (Seth Rogen) for Andre's final Sacko punishment.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7 'Nikita' (8PM ET, The CW)
Birkoff tells Nikita and Michael that a black box file reveals that an international terrorist named Ramon (guest star Simon Kassianides) now works for Division. This news upsets Nikita since she was the agent that captured Ramon years ago and turned him over to Percy. Amanda convinces Alex to kill Anton Kochenko, a man who used to work for Alex's father, and plans to let Ramon take the credit for the murder. However, when Nikita disrupts Amanda's plan, Amanda fights back by taking what Nikita loves most: Michael.
'Fringe' (9PM ET, Fox)
When two 12-year-old kids bully another boy, they are found in a shockingly advanced state of decomposition just hours after being killed. As the Fringe team investigates the mysterious case, they uncover an amorphous figure claiming more victims. Meanwhile, Walter becomes increasingly distracted by his hallucinations.
'Supernatural' (9PM ET, The CW)
Jensen Ackles directs the episode, guest starring 'Firefly' alum Jewel Staite. Dean is furious after Sam disappears to follow a lead on a case with clues that are identical to a case Sam solved as a kid. The trail leads him to Amy (Staite), a girl who Sam grew close to when he was younger.
'Sanctuary' (10PM ET, Syfy) season premiere
In the season four premiere, Magnus goes to 1898 London to try to stop Adam Worth from saving his daughter, which would alter the current timeline.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8
Russell tries to get out of his marriage to an overly enthused Liz, who tries to make it work, while Jeff attempts to engage Audrey in dirty talk.
'Free Agents (UK)' (11PM ET, BBC America) series premiere
As the American adaptation inches closer and closer towards cancellation on NBC, check out the original (and better) British sitcom that inspired it. The hit romantic comedy set in the office of a London talent agency stars Anthony Head ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer'), Stephen Mangan ('Episodes') and Sharon Horgan ('The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret').
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9
Brother Sam, a minister with a criminal history, is brought in by the homicide department to help solve a macabre murder, but Dexter sees him for what he really is-and it's definitely not a man of God. Elsewhere, Debra's sudden hero status elicits a pair of surprising proposals.
'Breaking Bad' (10PM ET, AMC) season finale
Walt acquires a surprise confederate with help from Saul, and he and Jesse square off with Gus.
'Homeland' (10PM ET, Showtime)
This gripping new thriller boasts a second episode that's every bit as compelling as the first: An undercover agent with connections to a Saudi prince who may be funding terrorist activities provides Carrie with a revealing piece of electronic evidence. Meanwhile, Carrie studies surveillance footage of life in Brody's home, where he appears troubled by traumatic memories and resists Pentagon and media pressure to be hyped as an American war hero.
'Pan Am' (10PM ET, ABC)
For the non-cable crowd: When the crew gets a flight taking journalists to Berlin to cover an important speech by President Kennedy, Maggie, who campaigned for him, is determined to meet JFK no matter what. Meanwhile, when her contact's safety is compromised, Kate tries to help the young woman escape East Germany; and painful memories of World War II force Colette to face her tragic past.
