NEW DELHI (World News) - A building in the old quarters of New Delhi collapsed on Tuesday night, killing at least five people and injuring more than 20, local TV reported.
Many of the injured are said to be in critical condition and the toll could increase, according to the reports. Many people are believed to be trapped inside.
The reason for the collapse was not immediately known.
Fire brigades and ambulances rushed to the spot in Chandni Chowk, a Mughal-era walled city, while rescue operations continued, TV images showed.
Many Indian buildings do not conform to safety regulations, with owners building extra floors or structures without approval.
