500 People Killed in Nigerian Riots

World News - Explosion riots that followed the presidential elections in Nigeria some time ago, causing more than 500 people dead. This amount is known based on reports of human rights observer group.

But the amount is ignored by the government. They refused to confirm the number of victims described, although the International Red Cross mengatan many casualties in the incident. International Red Cross adds 74 thousand people fled from the incident.

"The number of confirmed death toll reached 516 people," said the Nigerian human rights activist Shehu Sani Congress told AFP on Monday (4/25/2011).

He said most victims were killed in theregion Kaduna . "Most likely the death toll will continue to grow. We are still gathering information," he continued.

Violence in Nigeria took place after Presuiden Goodluck Jonathan won the presidency of Nigeria after the April 16 ballot.
violence broke out after Jonathan's win with the acquisition of 57 percent votes from his opponent Muhammadu Buhari who get 31 percent of the vote.

violence spread rapidly in some areas led to the indiscriminate attacks between the two groups of supporters of Jonathan and Buhari. Both these supporters clashing machetes and sticks during riots.

Many thought the riot was triggered by religious sentiment, but most analysts believe that the unrest caused by poverty and economic marginalization of northern Nigeria.
