Closed Rustock, Spam Reduced 13 Billion a Day

Closure of massive spam network Rustock successfully reduced one-third the volume of junk mail around the world. Similarly, MessageLabs claims as reported by The Register, Wednesday (30/03/2011).

Microsoft and the United States federal agencies (FBI) led the stampede to cover Rustock on 17 March. Rustock accused liable for 13.82 billion spam every day. The majority of spam is an advertisement for the pharmaceutical sites that do not have permission.

In that raid, Microsoft and the FBI managed to close seven Rustock hosting facilities across the U.S. territory and confiscated servers that run their network.

It did not take long to find out the positive effects of the closure Rustock. Currently the number of global spam is reduced to 33 billion emails per day compared to the previous week to reach 52 billion.

But apparently still too early to feel happy. The reason appears other botnets ready to replace the position Rustock. Even now Bagle Rustock shift as the largest source of junk mail.

Though last year was not even enough Bagle harm to appear in the list of 10 worst spam source version of Symantec. However, the current Bagle a threat that can not be ignored with a total of 8.31 billion spam emails per day.
