50 protesters in Azerbaijan Arrested Police

The police officer in the former Soviet Union, Azerbaijan, Saturday (12 / 3), hold 50 opposition activists who tried to hold anti-government protests that inspired a large demonstration in the Arab world.

About 200 members of the opposition Musavat party has gathered in the Field Fountain in central Baku to protest, but quickly dissolved police.

The protesters, including Musavat leader Arif Hajili and Tofik Yakublu, singing "Freedom! Resignation!", while uniformed police and -dress used to take them away into police buses. Some of they were released soon afterwards. "Police arrested 50 residents on 12 March," said the interior ministry in a statement.

The ministry added that 30 people had been released, but 20 others still detained and will appear later in court. Jesus Pictures, leader of Musavat, said that the revolution in Azerbaijan has close if the government fails to initiate democratic reforms.  "Our message to the government is doing fundamental reform, if you do not want a revolution, "said Jesus Picture. "The demonstration of this historic day, this marks the beginning of the democratic movement in Azerbaijan. "

On Friday, police arrested 40 more young activists who sought to held demonstrations across the country against the regime led by President Ilham Aliyev, who succeeded his father Heydar in 2003, through facebook social networking pages. The government arrested at least five activists last week before the demonstration in an attempt to stifle opposition in the secular Muslim majority countries it.

Amnesty International has asked Azerbaijan to stop crackdown immediately and allow activists to protest peacefully. " Delegation of the European Union and the United States ambassador to Azerbaijan also has
expressed their concern over the arrests. Energy-rich Azerbaijan has courted foreign governments because
oil and gas supplies, but some critics accuse the West only perform a soft criticism on human rights violations there for maintain their economic interests.


The owner of a huge oil riches in the Caspian, Aliyev family, has been Azerbaijak ruled since 1993 when the father of Ilham Aliyev, Haydar, a president. Heydar Aliyev replaced his son when he died in 2003.  Some critics accused the Aliyev family has been rigging elections, quell dissent, jailing opponents and stifle media in the country's eight million people.
