A teacher dumped hot tea on two high school students after they refused to stop fighting, it is claimed.

The incident is said to have happened at Hastings High School, Michigan.

Skyler Henion, 15, and Dillon Anderson, 18, are believed to have come to blows after texting messages to each other.

'I just felt the tea running down my neck to my back and it was burning,' Skyler Henion told WOOD-TV. He then told his mother about what had happened when he got home.

Police say the teenager received minor burns to his face.

'Everybody says that she was supposedly screaming down the hall saying that she was going to, but I never heard it. I was too caught up in the moment,' said Skyler.

Police say the students had been texting each other when the older student confronted the younger one in a hallway.

The last text seen sent from Anderson to Henion was 'I'll be there in 3 mins.'

The woman who said to be a Spanish teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Police plan to forward the results of their ongoing investigation to Barry County prosecutors for review.

'I don't know if that was probably the best way she could have took it,' said Henion.

'I know she did have her hands full but I don't know about dumping tea on a student.'

The other student involved expressed a different take on it.

'I just want to see the teacher just get let off the hook and just everybody stop picking on the teacher,' Anderson told WOOD in a phone interview.

'She wasn't exactly the biggest person and she had her arms full with bags and stuff so she just kinda did what had to be done.'

An attorney speaking on behalf of the teacher to WOOD said that she acted professionally and has always looked out for her students' safety.

According to the school, they also say she had a previously spotless record and was well liked.
